It started as a simple idea: move the projector outside.

Let’s take the projector outside.
We usually use our beam projector indoors, but one evening in late March, the air felt warm enough to sit outside after dark.
Winter had not completely disappeared, but spring was close enough to make the night feel softer.
Then the thought came to me.
Why not bring the projector into the yard?
So we did.

A Screen on the Wall, a Fire in the Yard
We carried the projector outside and aimed it at the white wall of the house.
The wall became a screen.
We gathered wood and made a small bonfire in the yard.
Soon, the fire began to crackle, sparks rose into the dark, and music spread across the garden.

A BTS concert was playing on the wall of our countryside home in Gapyeong.
It was not a real concert hall.
There were no numbered seats, no crowd waiting at the entrance, and no lights sweeping across a stadium.
There were only the mountains, the night sky, the white wall of the house, and the fire burning nearby.
Still, for that evening, the backyard felt like our own private concert venue.
Something Slightly Ridiculous and Completely Wonderful
I should be honest about what it felt like.
It felt a little ridiculous.
And it felt wonderful.
There is a particular kind of freedom in doing something simply because the idea makes you laugh.
No one was watching.
There was no need to explain why a BTS concert was being projected onto the side of a house in the middle of the countryside.
We could turn the volume up a little, sit beside the fire, and enjoy the night without worrying about anyone passing by.
Perhaps that is one of the quieter advantages of rural life.
There is enough distance from other houses to do something slightly strange without feeling embarrassed.
A yard can become a workshop during the day.
A place for coffee in the afternoon.
And, if the mood is right, a concert hall after dark.
Ppeppe Watched from a Safe Distance
The sound carried across the yard.
The fire made its dry, familiar crackling sound.
Ppeppe stayed at a cautious distance, watching the entire situation carefully.
She did not seem convinced that turning the backyard into a concert venue was a good idea.
Cats have a way of observing human excitement as though they are responsible for assessing the risks.
From her position, she could see the fire, the large moving images on the wall, and the two of us enjoying something that probably made no sense to her.
She stayed nearby, but not too nearby.
Close enough to supervise.
Far enough to leave immediately if necessary.
Music Beneath the Night Sky
We stayed outside until the fire began to burn low.
The flames became smaller, and the pieces of wood settled into glowing embers.
The concert continued on the wall.
Above it, the real night sky remained dark and still.
There was something strange and beautiful about the contrast.
A large performance filled with light and sound was playing against the quiet wall of a countryside house.
Beyond it were dark mountains and trees.
The screen held a concert from far away.
The yard held the sound of fire and the cold edge of a March night.
The two worlds met for a little while.
A Concert with No Audience
There is a special kind of joy in doing something slightly absurd in a beautiful place.
No audience was needed.
No tickets.
No carefully planned schedule.
Just a projector, a white wall, a small fire, and music we wanted to hear.
Sometimes the best use of a space is not the one it was designed for.
A plain wall can become a screen.
A backyard can become a concert hall.
An ordinary evening can become a memory because someone asks one simple question.
Why not?
That night, Jungkook sang in our garden.
The fire burned beneath the dark sky.
Ppeppe kept watch from a safe distance.
And for a few hours, our quiet backyard in Gapyeong became the smallest BTS concert venue in the world.
