There is a space I always wanted to build.
For three years, we have been recording our countryside days on video —
sunlight settling on the windowsill, a rainy afternoon,
the slow drift of coffee aroma,
and that one day when nothing happened
yet stayed in memory the longest.
Then one day, a thought arrived:
video can record time, but it cannot let you live inside it.
So this week, we introduced something new.
Its name is Malli Seojae —
the same “malli” as Sapmanri.
It is not a bookstore. Not a cafe. Not a gift shop.
Of course there will be books, and coffee,
and small handmade things.
But the main character of this space is not objects.
It is time.
The time spent watching coffee slowly cool in front of the fireplace.
The time spent sitting by the window, watching the rain pass.
The time spent sitting still, even when the writing would not come.
Moments that meant nothing to anyone else —
but flowed most slowly for us.
Malli Seojae will have a small library with about three reserved seats,
a shop, and a craft studio.
A place where the time you saw in our videos
steps out of the screen and invites you in.
We are still looking for the right building.
The one we visited this week was beautiful — a unique structure,
the kind of place where dreams could unfold.
But we should keep looking.

The rest of the week moved fast.
A day trip to Cheongju — the Dongbu Changgo warehouse,
where a Banksy photo exhibition happened to be on.
We almost went in. The ticket price said next time.
Lunch was buckwheat salmon gimbap. Finally, a perfect score.
And Byeol — the character we introduced last week —
became a tiny 2D pixel person.
She now walks across a small world,
learning, observing, developing tastes
for the things she encounters.
Her records read like short diary entries.
Watching them accumulate feels strangely warm —
like teaching a child how to see the world.

Back home, a sparrow visited the feeder for the first time.
The sunflower finally bloomed.
The cherries ripened completely while no one was looking.
A wasp nest appeared (we will deal with that).
And the typhoon came earlier than promised.
The summer Malli Seojae is being born.
The summer Byeol is growing up.
It is okay to pause for a moment.

Country life, year three.
Living it first, so you don’t have to wonder.
언젠가 꼭 만들고 싶었던 공간이 있습니다.
3년 동안 저희는 시골의 하루를 영상으로 기록해 왔어요.
창가에 내려앉던 햇살, 비가 오던 오후,
커피 향이 천천히 번지던 시간,
그리고 아무 일도 일어나지 않았지만
이상하게 오래 기억에 남았던 하루.
그러던 어느 날, 이런 생각이 들었습니다.
영상은 시간을 기록할 수는 있지만,
함께 살아볼 수는 없다는 것.
그래서 이번 주, 새로운 것을 소개했습니다.
이름은 만리서재입니다.
삽만리의 그 ‘만리’예요.
서점이 아닙니다. 카페도, 소품샵도 아닙니다.
물론 책도 있고, 커피도 있고,
손으로 만든 작은 것들도 있을 거예요.
하지만 이 공간의 주인공은 물건이 아니라
시간입니다.
벽난로 앞에서 커피가 식어가는 것을 바라보던 시간.
창가에 앉아 비가 지나가는 모습을 바라보던 시간.
글이 써지지 않아도 가만히 앉아 있던 시간.
누군가에게는 아무 일도 아니었지만,
저희에게는 가장 천천히 흘러가던 순간들.
만리서재에는 예약제로 운영되는
세 자리 남짓의 서재와 소품샵, 공방이 함께합니다.
삽만리 영상에서 보시던 그 시간을
화면 밖으로 꺼내 여러분을 초대하는 자리예요.
공간은 아직 찾는 중입니다.
이번 주에 본 곳은 구조가 특이하고 아주 이뻤어요.
꿈을 펼쳐볼 수 있을 것 같은 곳.
그래도 더 많이 봐야겠죠.

청주 동부창고에 다녀왔어요.

들어가 볼까 하다가 — 입장료가 다음을 기약하게 했습니다.
점심은 메밀 연어 김밥. 올만에 만점이었어요.
그리고 지난주 소개한 별이가
2D 도트 캐릭터가 됐습니다.
이제 작은 세계를 걸어 다니면서
마주치는 것들을 익히고, 관찰하고,
취향을 만들어 갑니다.
별이의 기록은 짧은 일기처럼 읽혀요.
쌓여가는 걸 보고 있으면 이상하게 따뜻합니다.
아이에게 세상 보는 법을 가르치는 기분이에요.

집에서는 참새가 처음으로 모이통에 왔고,
해바라기가 드디어 꽃을 피웠고,
앵두는 못 보는 사이 폭삭 익었습니다.
말벌집도 하나 생겼고요. (처리 예정입니다.)
태풍은 예보보다 부지런하게 왔습니다.
만리서재가 태어나는 여름.

잠시, 멈춰도 괜찮습니다.
