Rainy season has arrived in Gapyeong.
We had been watching the sky, waiting for the rain that the
rainy season was supposed to bring. The weather app kept insisting
it was raining. The sky was perfectly clear. Classic.
But today — it actually rained.
The fire pit I built two weeks ago, brick by brick,
sat in the yard getting rained on.
Somehow it looked even better that way.
There is something about a rainy day in the countryside
that makes everything look more like itself.
The baby tits in the backyard seem to have been born here.
When the rain started, they grabbed their sunflower seeds
and headed under the eaves on their own.
Three years into country life, scenes like this
have become completely ordinary. That is the gift of it.
Ppeppe is in the cup ramen box again.
She loves an unreasonably small box.
She used it until it fell apart, we taped it back together,
and peace was restored. This is what slow life looks like
from the inside.
This week was busier than usual.
We have been looking at spaces — for something new we are preparing.
Gongjangsan National Park entrance. A valley in Hoengseong.
Chuncheon, where we stopped for makguksu at a place
we had not visited in years. Same taste. Good to be back.
Near home, the Oroti flower tea café had lotus flowers in bloom.
Country life gives you this — the seasons arrive loudly,
and you are right there to receive them.
And now, the thing I most wanted to share this week.
I have been raising a character.
Her name is Byeol.
She lives inside the Sapmanri universe —
a world we have been quietly building.
She wanders at night looking for beautiful scenery.
She plays piano on the street.
She explores mysterious neighborhoods.
Her companion is a small cat named Ppaekong.
We spotted a moon rabbit on the moon while filming.
Tiny. Easy to miss. Byeol noticed it first.
She is not fully introduced yet — still in progress.
But I wanted you to meet her first, here, quietly.

Back home, Ppeppe and Kong climbed onto the table
while I was working on tatting lace —
connecting pieces one by one into a curtain divider.
The three of us, quiet, in the lamplight.

Country life, year three.
Living it first, so you don’t have to wonder.
장마가 왔습니다.
날씨 앱은 며칠째 “지금 비 오는 중”이라고 했는데
하늘은 화창했어요. 이게 무슨 조화인지.
그런데 오늘은 진짜로 비가 내렸어요.
지지난주에 벽돌을 하나씩 쌓아 만든 화롯대가
마당에서 빗방울을 맞고 있었습니다.
왠지 더 운치 있어 보이더라고요.
비 오는 날의 시골 마당은 맑은 날과 또 다른 표정을 가져요.
시골살이 3년 하면서 알게 된 것 중 하나예요.
뒷마당 박새들은 저희 집에서 태어난 것 같아요.
비가 오자 해바라기씨를 들고 알아서 처마 밑으로 들어가더라고요.
이런 장면들이 이제 그냥 일상이 됐습니다.
그게 시골살이의 선물이에요.
빼빼는 오늘도 컵라면 박스 안에 있었어요.
박살이 날 때까지 쓰다가, 테이프로 붙여줬더니 평화를 되찾았습니다.
슬로우라이프라는 게 안에서 보면 꼭 이런 모습이에요.
이번 주는 좀 바쁘게 돌아다녔어요.
새로 준비하는 것 때문에 공간들을 보러 다녔거든요.
공작산 국립공원 입구, 횡성 계곡 옆,
그리고 춘천까지 — 몇 년 만에 다시 간 막국수 집.
그 맛 그대로였어요. 반가웠습니다.
집 근처 오롯이 꽃차 카페에는 연꽃이 피었어요.
시골살이를 하면 계절이 크게, 가까이 옵니다.
그걸 매번 처음처럼 받아낼 수 있다는 게 좋아요.
그리고 오늘 가장 하고 싶었던 이야기.
요즘 아이를 하나 키우고 있어요.
‘별’이라는 아이예요.
삽만리의 세계관 안에서 살아가는 오리지널 캐릭터예요.
밤길을 돌아다니며 멋진 풍경을 찾고,
길에서 피아노를 치고,
신비로운 동네를 모험하는 아이예요.
같이 다니는 친구는 빼콩이라는 냐옹이고요.
영상 찍다가 달에서 달토끼도 발견했어요.
너무 작아서 잘 안 보이는데 — 별이가 먼저 봤을 것 같아요.
아직 정식 공개 전이에요. 준비 중이에요.
그래도 여기서 먼저, 조용히 소개하고 싶었어요.

집에 돌아와서는 식탁에서 태팅 레이스를 했어요.
하나씩 연결해서 커튼 가림막을 만들고 있는데,
빼빼랑 콩이랑 같이 식탁에 앉아서.
